Handmade Detail, Realistic Expectations

Engraving interprets your photo through lines, texture and light. It cannot reproduce every photographic detail with 100% accuracy. Individual hairs, tiny markings, exact colors and subtle tonal changes may be simplified or represented differently in the etched medium.

Photo quality, artwork size and pet count affect the detail achievable. Small differences in line depth and finish are natural features of hand engraving.

Care Instructions

Display indoors, away from water, humidity, prolonged direct sunlight and heat. Hold the wooden frame when moving it. Dust gently with a clean, dry, ultra-soft microfiber cloth; avoid alcohol, glass cleaners, wet wipes, paper towels and abrasive materials.

Why do the engraved details look different around the room?

The etched lines catch light differently as the lighting and viewing angle change. If the portrait looks faint, try adjusting its position or placing a nearby room lamp at a different angle, while avoiding direct sun and glare.

Is a close-up or full-body photo better for this medium?

A close-up gives the face more space for engraved expression and markings. A full-body composition can show a meaningful pose, but each facial feature will be smaller. For several pets or detailed full-body scenes, consider a larger size.

Can you emphasize a marking that identifies my pet?

Tell us which feature matters most, such as an ear shape, facial patch or distinctive outline. We can assess how to represent it in engraving. Very small features or markings defined mainly by color may be less distinct than in a photograph.
